help with oil

I just bought a jd 955 tractor 1997 on the same side of the motor were the oil filter is there is a gear box with a yellow cap that says oil it is right in front of were the fuel injection lines go can you tell me what typ of oil go,s in there and were to fill it to as i can not find a dip stick for that and what it is for i can see in there and see gears but not no oil i am not using my tractor tell i find out

It's a bit hard to follow your description, but I'm hoping that you were trying to describe the fuel delivery assembly (fuel pump/governor/injection pump). Colloquially, it's usually just called the injection pump. If I'm correct (that you're trying to describe the injection pump), the lack of a dipstick suggests there may be a threaded plug on the side - somewhere below the fill cap. Remove this plug, pour oil into the fill opening, stop when it comes out the side hole. The little sump only holds a few ounces, so don't overdo it. Replace the side plug and the fill cap.

As far as what type oil, that's personal preference. Some - as a matter of convenience - use the same kind of oil they use in the engine. In many diesels, that's 15W40. My preference is compressor oil, ISO100 full detergent.
